Scared to Death no more! The truth about Death in Tarot The XIII Arcana tends to strike fear among the neophytes in the art of Tarot as well as those who are curious about it but don't dare to dig deeper into it. Drawing this card, specially without a context usually concerns Tarot rookies, but the truth about this card is actually much simpler and less spooky. It's scary to think about Death as a physical death, but looking at it in a more spiritual way, what is death but an uncomfortable ending right before a rebirth? This is exactly the very essence of this card. Death speaks about transition, a transition that is more often than not somewhat difficult, painful or uncomfortable but that will lead us to a new beginning that will awaken us to a new reality. It is the before and after, the opportunity to start fresh and a herald of big, relevant change in our lives. This card usually indicates endings as well, the death of what no longer serves us
Sometimes these endings can be accompanied by a period of grief or fear, just as it happens with actual death, for instance when a relationship ends or we are laid off from work and we have to face the challenge of finding our place in the workforce all over again. However, the silver lining resides in the promise that this loss or ending will be in our best interest and will open up possibilities that were not available for us before. So, when it comes to Death, there's nothing to be scared about!
The changes that Death predict, are, similarly to the physical version of it, unavoidable, but all that this means in a Tarot context is that resistance to these changes tend to make them more difficult to go through, while collaborating to the process, going with the flow and working on acceptance will ensure a smoother transition and a much easier awakening on the other side where opportunities await to be grab
